Professional Writing: Spelling, Grammar, and Word Selection

December 30th, 2010 by admin

Never has a professional image been more important. In today’s image crazy world, an individual must practice diligence and professionalism in all areas of their life. Too often people are passed over for promotions, interviews, and even social friendships not due to how they perform, but how they look. This image isn’t just style and clothing, but most importantly writing and social networking skills.

College graduates are failing the first step to job assurance simply by forgetting or rather, neglecting, to spell check their resumes and cover letters. We may be living in a techno jargon world, but idiomatic “lol” and “y?” aren’t going to cut it in the business world. Grammar, spelling, sentence style, and word choice are basic elements to conveying a message in written form. An effective elocutionist should also be an effective prose writer.

With so many free programs online today for free spell checking downloads, grammar checking, and even available options for a free online thesaurus there are no excuses for poor quality writing. Nothing says I’m inadequate like subject-verb agreement mistakes in the company memo. Some people dedicate their entire lifetimes to pursuit of the study of grammar, surely an extra couple of seconds proof reading is possible.

A thesaurus provides new vocabulary and depth to otherwise static text. It doesn’t take much to improve professional writing, but it does depend on the desire to present a respectable image.

Bad spelling, poor grammar, and am inability to use any word with more than five letters shows a lack of effort, a lack of intelligence, and a lack of professionalism. With online options available for free faulty writing is simple unacceptable.

Good Grammar Puts Your Résumé at the Top of the Pile

December 29th, 2010 by admin

You march into the HR office confidently, résumé in hand. With a charming smile, you slip it to the director. This is it. This time, you will get the job.

Too bad the first thing the director sees is an error in grammar. It’s no wonder your résumé isn’t getting you any interviews.

So maybe grammar isn’t your forte. That doesn’t mean you can’t write a killer résumé that doesn’t kill the English language. The Internet has a wealth of sites to help you with grammar questions. To make your life even easier, find one with a built-in online grammar check. This service, in many cases, is free.

Here are the steps to ensure your résumé has polished and proper grammar. After you finish your draft, let it sit a day before you look it over. This will help you catch more errors. Then, read your résumé backwards. This is another trick to help you see mistakes you might otherwise miss. Finally, read your document out loud.

Now it’s time to submit the résumé to be corrected online. However, don’t accept the corrections blindly. Look them over, and if you don’t agree with any, check a trusted grammar book or website to eliminate all doubts. This step might take time, but it’s worth it if you don’t want your résumé to end up in the slush pile again.

Lastly, have a friend or family member read over your résumé. Because they have a fresh perspective, they’ll be able to ensure your résumé is error free. Double check their corrections, if there are any.

You’re now ready to get that job.

Build New Relationships When You Learn A New Language

December 28th, 2010 by admin

With much of today’s world interacting with people across the globe, it more important now than ever to make sure that these people can adequately understand the language of the person they are interacting with.  Because of this, many people are getting more educated than ever in foreign cultures.  This, of course, will mean learning the language of another culture, which is not always an easy task, but will definitely help with the interaction that a person might have with a person from another country.  One of the more difficult things to do when learning different cultures and languages is to learn Vietnamese.  Vietnamese is a difficult language to learn because of how different it is compared to other East Asian languages.

Many people are interested in the cultures of the Eastern Asian and mainland Asian countries, perhaps because of how exotic their cultures are to the Western world.  For a Westerner, learning the language of an Eastern country is likely a difficult feat because of the exotic characters and the many differing aspects in comparison to the languages spoken in the Western world.  To anyone who would like to learn Vietnamese, though, might be surprised to find that it is based on the Latin alphabet, which then may seem easier to understand because of the Latin roots of many Western languages.  However, it will still be a challenge, and the person learning will have to put in a great deal of effort.

One thing that drastically helps the learning process of a new language is practice speaking and hearing the language.  So anyone looking to purchase kits that will help them learn a new language will have to be sure that the program they are buying contains these elements to ensure the best learning procedures for a new language.  One could not imagine to learn Vietnamese without having to hear the language spoken or not speaking it aloud repetitively.  Because learning a new language will open many doors for anyone who is pursuing an interaction with people from another country, doing so will be a great idea to further one’s career or build new personal relationships.

Korean Culture and Tradition

December 26th, 2010 by admin

Modern Korea is deeply steeped in the cultures and traditions of the past. They make the country what it is today. Korea was first settled by a number of primitive tribes and many living in the country today are related to those settlers. Now all have joined together to form one culture; a culture that revolves around the family. The family is the most important aspect of Korean life.

The Korean family must grant permission for anything to be done by the family members. The eldest is considered the wisest so therefore makes most decisions. All family members are referred to as ilga which translates into one house. One will also hear tongjok which is the group of paternal relatives. Often you will find them all living in one home. The tonjgok is reserved for male family members and the eldest relatives care for this group. They appoint officials in a manner similar to that of a small government. The officials gather to discuss every aspect of family life and the oldest living male makes a decision based on what has been discussed.

Korean couples still often have arranged marriages. This is commonly seen among the upper class and is used to bring two families together rather than two people. Social standing is still considered of the utmost importance as it is believed that wealth leads to a long, happy life. The marriages are arranged only after much research has been done and only if a connection is made between the two parties after dating for a short period of time. Although marriages between different social classes are becoming more common, they still are not considered the preferred route.

Korean families continue to live close together even after marriage. Urban families have an average of 4,8 people while rural ones have 5.3 on average. This is just the immediate family though. Families that live close together are known as the clan and may live in one house together. Up to four generations are known to share a residence. When this is the living arrangement, heavy squared posts are used at every angle of the house. To support ceiling rafters, huge beams are used. One main building is placed in the middle or sometimes court of the house. This is the center and will be decorated. Separate rooms are maintained for men and women at either end of the house and men are not permitted to enter the female quarters. This is considered private and each room is similar to a small apartment.

December 26th, 2010 by admin

Local, State, or Federal governments may mandate people to have a license so that they can do their jobs or hold specific occupations.

In order to get your certification you need to go through the application process. You will also need study guides or classes and possibly training. Create a checklist of everything you need to do and make certain to be prepared well in advance of the exam.

Some states and regions have specific PLACE licensing specifications. Make sure you’ve checked these out beforehand. Once you have got that taken care of, make sure to research what sort of paperwork you will need to fill out, what identifying documents you need to provide, what training classes you have to take, how much it costs to take the exam, when the test takes place. Also make sure you understand what is being tested and what study aids are available to help you prepare.

After obtaining everything in order to submit an application for your license, preparing for the actual licensing test will be the next key step. This will involve devoting study time to first learn the material, then revision to consolidate the learning, and finally attempting practice questions on mock tests to mimic test conditions. If you need instructions on where to get study supplies, join study groups, or take practice exams to upgrade your test-taking abilities, you can try asking at the agency that conducts your exam.

The benefit of practice tests is that they can help you become familiar with the examination format, as well as helping you to discover what testing areas you’ll need to work on.

Make inquiries from any family members or friends who’ve got this license, as to what would be in store for you on the date of the PLACE test. Determine the type of questions that will be asked. What’s the time period allocated for the test? Find out the mode of preparation for the exam. You might want to verify from the license web site or personally go to the involved office in your city and convince yourself thoroughly so that you are totally prepared for the license test.

After finishing the license exam, you’ll be notified of the outcome and will either receive the license or have the opportunity to take the exam again within a certain period of time subject to the policy of the licensing authority.

After being granted your PLACE license, please note that there could be times when you’ll need more testing or you may need to train to show that you are current and knowledgeable of all the latest adjustments or additional important info.

Efficiency of Important MTEL Practice

December 25th, 2010 by admin

If you want to deliver a better performance in an exam, a test, a certification or perhaps a demonstration or you just want to update your abilities, you need to have MTEL test practice. It is said that practice makes perfect but it does not say what type of practice and for how long. Some forms of practice are the right kind and of the right length to make anyone appear perfect.

When a practice test is taken as an obligation, the interest, motivation, and pleasure is taken away and it reduces the effect of your practice. Thus determination will be the main hurdle in obtaining great practice.

Handle practice in a constructive way. Don’t view it as an examination if it dampens your spirit. Take it supportively. Consider it as a contest and enter with an open mind.

When you participate in something, you are fully involved: the idea is not to repeat and perfect by going over the same ground again and again, but rather to explore, play, and discover. Participating means that there is no fixed outcome, thus no idea of passively going through the motions. Instead, engage your senses: pay attention to what it feels like whenever you practice.

Imagine if the MTEL practice test was as difficult as the actual test. Take note of what you are feeling as you take the practice test. If you’re succumbing to monotony or finding the practice too redundant or discouraging, you may have hit a stumbling block. Wanting to be flawless could be powerful motivation, yet it may also backfire.

Practicing helps us spanning a lifetime, holding about some concept that you should turn out to be something great. it is about a better positive way.

And remember one thing that you need to practice and learn the kind of practices that work well for you, and fluctuate your practice so that you don’t feel that you are only going through the motions. Introducing new types of practice that included to your routine.

You’ll know you’re using the right approach to practicing for the exam if you see consistent progress as well as when you begin to find practicing pleasant.
