Help! I Have No Idea About This Topic!

July 29th, 2010 by admin

Working as a writer is no easy task back then.  When the Internet was not as vibrant and  overflowing with free information, writing can sometimes be a major chore! Sure, you can write or blog all day long twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week if the topic is your piece of cake.  But what if it isn’t?  And in the course of your writing, I assure you that, once in a while you will be tasked to write things that you do not have one bit of an idea.  Suppose you are a fashionista who loves to chatter about style, fashion or models. Then your boss tells you to write about camping outdoors just because the writer assigned to it went on leave. Or, say, you are a Hollywood buff and you are made to ‘gossip’ about computers.  Certainly, this is a grave mismatch.  You will wish that there was one Word Help 2007 button that will answer all your prayers and give you even that one starting push to get you writing.  You’d wish you could shout, Help Microsoft Office and your screen will be filled with accurate bits of information regarding that offbeat topic and yet written with wit, class and style.  But in any case, sans the fantasy, sans the magical button, there are ways to help you write your way around this tricky predicament in today’s time.

First of all, try to peruse (mentally, of course) all your past and present experiences for even the slightest encounter with that topic in the real sense.  Next, ask around from your friends and family.  Buy yourself some magazines regarding the topic and read around.  Sometimes, if there are places you need to go to that may give you inspiration about it, and you are not time-constrained, go!  Finally, use Google.  I recommend this the last because it’s too convenient and this does not develop much about your writing skills and will, in my opinion, only make you dependent with it.  So, there goes.  It’s just my two cents.
