Is Microsoft Office 2007 better than Microsoft Office 2003?

July 7th, 2010 by admin

I have been using Microsoft Office 2003 for, I guess about two decades now and I can say that I have been used to its user interface. It is not that difficult to use and you can always query your Office Assistant or just type a question on the help bar which is located on the uppermost right and answers will be presented to you right away.

Being a writer and a personal assistant, I can say that I am now in the advanced level in terms of using MS Word and Powerpoint.

For Excel, I still find it difficult to create formulas or how to pivot the data available. I either seek the help tab or my friend’s help with Microsoft Excel. I have to say it takes practice if you want to be considered in the intermediate level of using this application.

I think it was about two years ago when Microsoft decided to launch the better version of MS Office, the 2007 version. There were not a lot of people who jumped for joy at the time of the launch. Not wanting to leave the familiar, people have stuck to their                 MS Office version.

Not accepting defeat, Microsoft have continuously marketed the MS Office 2007, having a 30-day trial pack included when you buy laptops or desktops so that the people can be lured to buy this software.

I have tried the trial version myself and I have to say, they have modified the user interface. The menu bar was given a face by providing an icon. I was able to get the hang of using the Microsoft Word but I find it a bit difficult to use Excel.

I would always refer to help with Microsoft Excel 2007 a lot of times so that I can understand where my ‘usual’ shortcuts where. According to a friend of mine who is fond of using Excel in almost everything said that once you get to be familiar with it, you will find that the latest version is actually more user friendly compared to the 2003 version.

As for me, I am still not ready to let my 2003 version go but I may lean and use the 2007 version from time to time.
