Taking A Look At The Surgical Technician Salary
May 23rd, 2010 by admin
Salary is one of the most important considerations to make when you’re thinking about any job. While most people look at jobs in terms of whether or not they’ll enjoy the work, this is only part of the picture. Everyone wants to love their work, but you have to get paid as well! What does a surgical technician salary look like?
Surgical technicians are in high demand right now and probably will be for the foreseeable future. People are living longer, and surgical technologies are getting more and more complex, with the gist being that more people are getting surgeries. Obviously, technicians are needed for this.
As a surgical technician, you’re going to spend most of your time in the operating room assisting the actual surgeons. Since you’ll be wearing scrubs for virtually every single one of your job responsibilities, this is often what technicians are called for short: scrubs.
Scrubs generally help out the doctor, but not in the way that many people thing. You’re probably not going to be performing open heart surgery, but that’s fine. What you will be doing is helping the patient get ready for the operation, and setting up all the tools to ensure things go smoothly.
So what do scrubs get paid for all this? In general, the salary is about 50 thousand dollars a year, which is above the national average. This can make this a very attractive career for many, especially because the training required to enter the field is comparatively minimal.
The main thing you’ll need to ask yourself before you step into this field is whether or not you can support the lifestyle you want on a surgical technician salary. If you want to own a yacht and spend part of the year in Europe, look elsewhere. But if you just want to have a fulfilling job and make a good living, this could be what you’ve been looking for!
