What Is The Going Rate For An Animator Salary

March 8th, 2010 by admin

The art of drawing has been around for a very long time. Even as the world seems to be transitioning into a completely digital format, the art of taking a pencil to paper will probably never be lost. However, if you want to make a decent animator salary, you will need to be able to combine your love for classic drawing with an understanding of the newest technology. There are also a variety of styles and skills that you can learn, so furthering your education will always help to improve your hire ranking.

If you are trying to get a position with a large company, the average cartoonist or animator salary that you can expect is around $50,000 a year.

Fortunately, this is a field that seems to have a shallow window of growth, since the lower percentile is around $45,000 with the upper reaching to only about twenty percent higher than the median. $60,000 isn’t much better than $50,000 but it is still a substantial amount of money.

To increase your take, obviously, experience helps as well as the right computer animation education. As with most jobs, the size of the employer can also affect how much they can afford to pay you. With smaller companies, though, your job may not be as difficult or intensive as with a national one, which might mean that it is worth the smaller paycheck.

Another way to boost your animator salary is to get more experience that showcases your skills and put together a quality portfolio. One way to do this is to bite the bullet and start with a smaller company who will pay you less but give you some room to spread your creative wings. Another way is to contribute to a site or build one of your own where you can build a base of followers. You can then use this established fan base as grounds for negotiation.
