There are many contributing factors that determine the average salary of a paralegal. However, across the board of all those workers in the profession the overall average is around $50,000, making it one of the more preferred choices for many.

However, it is important to note that averages do only reflect certain figures. The factors which affect the total are educational history and experience in the main. However, there are also influences from the location worked in, and the industry.

It is often better to look at the median earnings in any profession; which determines the highest number of people earning a certain figure. With this in mind, the most popular salary for a paralegal working in the US is around $44,000.

However, the potential earnings are around the $70,000 mark and, sometime these can be even higher particularly when taking bonuses and other benefits offered into consideration. This is certainly the case at major players in finance and insurance, and even more so if based in major cities.

As a starting point, fresh out of school with certain qualifications in legal subjects, a starting paralegal can expect to get remuneration in the region of $27,000. However, though many may find this a little low, it has to be mentioned that acceleration is on merit, and can be quite rapid.

There is quite a large difference between those working in the private sector and those in the public sector. The private sector is only accountable to shareholders of course, not the electorate. As such, they can be up to 50 percent higher.
